Distinguish seal wear from closing misalignment
A brittle or split strip is different from a door that rests unevenly. Tell us whether the gap is continuous or only at one corner and whether movement changed. A new seal should not be used to conceal a track, panel or counterbalance problem.
Specify the fitted repair
Ask which seal profile and retainer are involved and whether adjacent trim needs separate attention. If work expands into modifying the opening, clarify the wider scope and applicable Village requirements. Do not expect a perimeter strip to solve drainage or flood entry from unrelated paths.
Your questions
Can every bottom seal slide into my existing retainer?
No. Profiles and retainers differ. Match the actual door system before choosing a replacement.
Should the opener close harder to compress a new seal?
Do not increase force to compensate for a poor fit. The installed seal and normal closing operation need to be checked together.
