Explain the current position before arranging access
Tell us if the door is closed, partly open or stopped at an angle, and whether people can use another entrance. Keep vehicles and stored items away from the unstable opening when safe to do so. Do not use clamps, timber or other improvised supports to make a suspended door convenient to pass under.
Choose parts for the installed door
Henry’s spring assessment considers the actual door construction and existing lift arrangement. Previous changes to sections, glass or hardware should be mentioned, because appearance alone cannot establish the required counterbalance. Ask how any worn companion components affect the repair and keep the service scope for later visits. Optional operator features can be considered after the door is mechanically suitable.
Your questions
Is a loose cable always the original failure?
It can accompany other mechanical problems. Have the whole lifting arrangement assessed instead of pulling the cable back into place.
Can spring repair be performed by adding turns to the remaining spring?
Do not attempt tension changes. The appropriate repair and part selection require a trained technician.
