Keep the symptom tied to its control
State whether the issue occurs from the wall control, remote or keypad, and whether it happens during opening, closing or both. A door that reverses needs its closing protection and mechanical travel assessed. Do not hold, tape or relocate a sensor to force a normal close.
Compare repair with a defined replacement option
If an older operator cannot be repaired appropriately, ask for the proposed replacement model and which accessories are included. A new motor does not automatically repair worn door hardware. Keep those two scopes visible, and clarify any applicable municipal requirements when the work changes.
Your questions
Is a blinking light enough to order a part?
Indicator meanings vary by model. Record the pattern and model safely, then use the correct manufacturer guidance during assessment.
Can the existing keypad be guaranteed to work with a new operator?
Not without checking compatibility. Include it in the equipment list before agreeing to a replacement.
