Describe the surfaces that concern you
Show where coating is worn, fasteners appear discolored or moisture collects, without reaching into moving hardware. Note whether marks return after cleaning and which side of the door is affected. Surface appearance cannot establish the remaining strength of a spring, cable or bracket. Mechanical concerns belong in the inspection, even if the exterior still looks presentable.
Leave with a usable care plan
Keep the door manufacturer and finish name in the service record. Ask which cleaning products and lubricants are appropriate and which areas should be left to a technician. Clopay provides collection-specific care instructions; advice for a painted steel surface should not automatically be applied to a wood or composite overlay. Separate routine upkeep from any necessary repair so follow-up work is understandable.
Your questions
Can I remove rust from loaded brackets myself?
Do not loosen or disturb the bottom brackets or tensioned hardware. Have deterioration in those parts evaluated professionally.
Does maintenance include repainting?
Confirm the scope. An operating-condition visit and a finish-restoration project use different work, materials and acceptance criteria.
