Record what changed before the failure
A bang followed by an unusually heavy door is useful information, but sound alone does not identify the replacement part. Tell us whether the door has one or more spring assemblies and whether any label is readable from a safe position. Do not disconnect the opener to test the weight of a suspect door. The counterbalance and the door it supports need to be assessed together.
Understand the replacement scope
The quote should identify the recommended spring work and any related worn components. If paired springs are present, ask how their condition and service history affect the recommendation. A larger opener cannot compensate for lost counterbalance. After the repair, request an explanation of normal operation and the care instructions for the installed equipment; keep the written scope with the door records.
Your questions
Is a photograph of a colored spring enough to order one?
No. Color is not a complete specification. The installed door and spring system determine the suitable replacement.
What should a spring repair quote explain?
Ask which springs and related components are included, why they are needed and how the door will be checked afterward. Separate optional operator upgrades from the counterbalance repair.
